Our Story
We are an innovative social enterprise subsidiary of The Y (formerly YMCA) aiming to create 30,000 job placements for up to 15,000 young Australians in the education and care sectors over the next five years.
Y Careers was created to address two of our nation’s greatest challenges:
- the high level of youth underemployment; and
- the urgent demand for workers in the aged, disability and childcare sectors.
Our unique traineeship program introduces young people to meaningful careers, providing each trainee with a dedicated Career Coach for personalised guidance and support throughout their journey.
By reshaping the employment landscape, Y Careers ensures young people can build meaningful careers while helping to secure the future of critical services across the country.
Y Careers is supported by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations with a substantial grant of $15.2 million, aimed at 'Supporting the setup of Y Careers and its operations'.

What Makes Y Careers Different
We are a social enterprise co-designed by young people, for young people. We offer more than just mentoring to ease the supervision load—we also provide trainees with coaching in soft skills and support their personal well-being, ensuring they grow both professionally and personally.
Our traineeship program has been co-designed with young people and industry, making us uniquely equipped to build the next generation of skilled employees. Unlike other group training organisations (GTOs), our focus is on developing essential skills and providing the necessary support for young people to succeed in the workplace.
Each trainee will have a Career Coach to provide personalised support to assist with identifying and exploring their needs and aspirations for ongoing employment and education within their preferred sector.
Work integrated Training and Education, offering micro-credentialing of employability and entrepreneurship skills and a nationally recognised qualification. Trainees can also access an Entrepreneurs Program, providing dedicated support for those looking to launch innovative projects.
