Y Careers Announces New Inaugural Executive Director

In 2022, Y Australia appointed Amaresh Devanesen as the first Executive Director of Y Careers, a new initiative dedicated to building career pathways and meaningful employment for young Australians in the care economy.

Amaresh brings deep expertise and a genuine passion for youth-focused work, making him the perfect fit to lead Y Careers in addressing workforce needs and creating diverse opportunities for young people in essential care roles.
 

Leadership and Vision
Amaresh’s leadership journey includes a pivotal role at AFL SportsReady, where he spearheaded hundreds of traineeships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. 

Known for his collaborative, inclusive style and forward-thinking approach, Amaresh is dedicated to creating more equitable job opportunities. Tal Karp, Y Australia Group CEO, shared her excitement about Amaresh’s appointment, underscoring his commitment and expertise. He also contributes as a Board member for Black Duck Group, an incubator for young Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Supported by Y Australia, Paul Ramsay, and Macquarie Group Foundations, Y Careers is a strategic response to Australia’s national care workforce shortage. 

This initiative aligns with the Albanese Government’s commitment to developing a strong, diverse care workforce, offering young people a clear pathway into high-demand roles through innovative learning channels and advanced technologies.

Innovative Pathways and Supportive Careers
Y Careers is structured to meet the urgent need for workers in childcare, disability care, and aged care sectors. The program includes two-year traineeships, personalised support from dedicated Career Agents, and hands-on placements in various care roles. 

With a goal to onboard 15,000 young workers over the next five years, and backed by $15.2 million in federal funding, Y Careers aims to set a new standard in youth employment. Y Australia’s reach across communities makes it well-positioned to lead this transformative journey.
