Meet Paige: “You’ve Always Got Someone Who Has Your Back”

Starting something new can be exciting… and a little nerve-wracking. Just ask Paige, a Y Careers trainee who’s now thriving in her Early Childhood Educator role and loving every minute of it.
From Nervous to Confident
On her very first day, Paige admits she felt nervous stepping into the world of early learning. But that feeling didn’t last long.
“You have so many people who have your back and who will support you along the way.”
With the support of her Career Coach, supervisor, and the wider Y Careers team, Paige quickly found her feet. Having a strong support system made all the difference, giving her the confidence to learn, grow, and settle into her role.
Learning on the Job (and Loving It)
One of Paige’s favourite parts of the traineeship? Being hands-on from day one.
“I get to learn in the centre and spend every day with the kids, they’re some of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”
Instead of just sitting in a classroom, Paige is gaining real-world experience every single day. From building relationships with children to developing practical skills, she’s learning in a way that’s engaging, meaningful, and fun.
The Power of Asking Questions
Looking back, Paige has one piece of advice she’d give to anyone starting out:
“Keep asking questions because there is no such thing as a dumb question.”
It’s a simple reminder, but an important one. Being curious and open to learning is what helps trainees grow and succeed.
More Than Just a Job
For Paige, the traineeship isn’t just about work. It’s also about connection.
Through Y Careers, she’s met other trainees, built friendships, and become part of a supportive community of young people all on a similar journey.
Thinking About a Traineeship?
Paige’s message is clear:
“If you want to be a Y Careers trainee, go for it.”
With hands-on experience, real support, and the chance to build meaningful connections, a traineeship is more than just a first job; it’s the start of something bigger.
